36:21. This took place to fulfill the LORD's message delivered through Jeremiah. The land experienced its sabbatical years; it remained desolate for seventy years, as prophesied.

36:21. So the message of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were fulfilled, just as the prophet had said.

36:21. And so what the Lord told the people of Israel through the prophet Jeremiah really happened. He had said through Jeremiah: "This place will be an empty wasteland for 70 years. This will happen to make up for the Sabbath rests that the people had not kept."
